Plymouth Hair Show 2015

Theme: Twisted Cirucus

We kept in contact before the show, sharing ideas and photographs of how the hair and makeup would look together.

Rehersals

Here I have collaborated with 3 hairdresser for a hair show in Plymouth, each of the hairdressers have been given a theme based around the circus  and have asked me to design and create the makeup for each of their models.

I practised two looks on each eye for this model, and focused on keeping the skin heavy matte and strongly contoured. It was really useful for me to have a rehearsal to meet my models so that I was able to see their features and colouring and what makeup would suit for the theme

I learnt new techniques from this experience, I recorded their techniques of hairstyling so that I could practice them myself for future projects

For this makeup I contoured with brown colours, and created a dark smokey eye with warm browns and blacks. I created my own eyelash by attaching synthetic hair (wrapped in mastix glue and left to dry) to a fake eyelash and applied to one bottom lash.

For this makeup I wanted the colours to suit the hair as this was the main focus for the look. I kept it punk like by keeping to bright colours especially pinks. I exaggerated the mouth to stay within the brief for the ‘cicus’ theme,  and added lashes

For this makeup I wanted to keep the colours soft pastels. I used shimmer highlighters and golds around the eyes.  I blended in a soft heart shape around the face with face paints and powdered on top.

Aub Fashion Show

Experimentation/practice

The Aub fashion show is taking place May15th at the pavillion in Bournemouth. I have pratcised some looks on my male model Yaz. Yaz has flawless skin, so I wanted to emphasise this, I used vaseline to highlight areas of his face to give him a fresh look. The main running theme for the fashion show is gold leaf and burgundy colours. I have practised using the gold leaf on his features (for the actual fashion show I plan to only use the gold leaf on one area). The gold really contrasts nicely with the tone of his skin. I have also practiced a black smudge on his eye, I mixed black pigment with vaseline to create a sheen over his eyes.

The fashion film is going to be presented during the fashion show. I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to work, as it will be showcased to many fashion designers, if they like my makeup it may help me create more contacts. For this makeup, I prepped this skin with simple cleanser, and used a light moisturiser as my model Patricia has oily-acne prone skin. I contoured her face lightly and used warm colours on her eyes. Originally, I used a purple lip pencil to colour in her lips but the eyes and lips did not suit. I used black pencil to colour her lips, which worked really well. To finish the look I added copper leaf randomly around her eyes and into her hair. I finished her eyes off with a flick of liquid eyeliner, I actually preferred her makeup without the eyeliner and probably would have done if differently next time, overall I do love the look it really suited Patricia.

I worked on this green screen film, collaborating with Ma students. The organisation of the film was extremely unorganised, and they gave me little brief as to how they wanted the makeup. I got given a short story board and worked with that. They were also unsure on the costume, so during our first meeting I came with the director and chose the costumes with them. The director also wanted the male character to have a mask, so I painted the clear one seen here below with paints and used feathers around them to match the male’s makeup. The female makeup was very simple and pretty, however on screen she looks much more washed out than she did in person (it is really important to check the makeup on camera as the camera portrays it very differently than the eye)

Makeup Trial

Makeup for Filiming

I really disliked my first makeup on Patrick, it looked very drag-queen like. Trialing the makeup is really important to see what works and what doesn't. The next next I used just a soft black coal in his eyes and blended out. I brought this shape down onto his nose and his sockets to emphasise them to suit his character (creature-like)
