My Attempt

History of drag

  • a change in gender roles has been seen for centuries-within Shakespearean and Ancient Chinese theatre

  • They impersonate female roles for a performance show

  • For some, it is a form of self expression

  • Drag acts began within the 50s & 60s developed further in the 80s. Drags should not be labelled with a prejudice of sexuality

  • Drag stands for-dressed as a girl

Key tips to consider during a drag makeup

  • Face shape: the structure, dimensions, shapes- a mans face is much more angular and larger than a woman's. These shapes need to be softened

  • context requirements: longevity, performance. The makeup needs to be long lasting if the drag is performing ass night, a good primer should be used to help the makeup stay in place

  • each drag queen has their own identity and style

Step by step:

  • wash,shave,prep skin

  • use a thick theatre type makeup to contour the face, blend with a smooth sponge

  • highlight the t-szone with the lightest colour to look more feminine

  • reshape features with the darker colours (slim down the nose, soften the jawline, lift the cheek bone

  • set the makeup with a powder so that it is long lasting

  • create a new eyeshape with black eyeliner and shadows, blend outwards

  • you can cover up the eyebrow with wax or a pritt stick works well, then you can draw on a new high eyebrow

  • apply false lashes-for extra femininity

  • exaggerate the lips with a liner and fill with gloss

The eyebrows have been covered with prosade so that I could draw a new shape, I then coloured them with a concealer. I contoured the face and made a new eye shape. I feel like I need to practise my contouring techniques more, especially when they can be very exaggerated in a drag makeup, mine are a little too subtle.

I used a smokey brown colour to reshape the eye, and coloured with purple eyeshadow, i made sure to sure a fluffy brush to blend it in properly. I redrew the eye in with eyeliner which was more difficult with a dryer eyeliner, I would have created a better line with a fluid eyeliner.

I reshaped the lips by exaggerating them with lipliner and filling them in with lipstick.

Lashes and more shimmer would have perfected the look, overall I am very pleased with my first drag queen makeup.
